Egon Schiele

I haven't posted any art in awhile, I've been so deep in my pandora radio indie folk reverie. So I thought I'd just go with my most favorite guy.

I woke up early and am already tired.

Its Only Me

I heard a sound
when I was a child
someone was walking through the pillow that night
the snow muted
the pitch of night
a shadow approached across a field in white
it's only me
it's only me
and the sound of my heart it startled me
as I drifted
from the dark room
face lifted from the paper moon
reflected in the orbit bath
he manages to say before he starts to laugh
you can't always trust
the darkness and the dust
but me, I'm just a man
it's more than I can understand
it's only me

the white noise
falls away
to reveal the perfect day
where roses bloomed
out of thin air
and music rose from down the buried stairs
it's only mine
it's only mine
I grew it in the shade
when the sun couldn't shine
and at times I don't know why
the tears come to my eyes
and what if I go blind
as they flow out of my mind
it worries me
it worries me
that there's someone on my mind
who I don't see
I close my eyes to disappear
into the fields of stars between my ears
the dark
as they overlap
we follow one another
as we fade to black

it's only night
it's only night

an ultrasound when I was alive
the shadows go spying on the ones in the wild
they dip their arrows
into the sea
they wash their arms
as they wait for me
they wait for me
they wait for me
hey wait for me
hey wait for me

Success

A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him. -David Brinkley

Flaming enthusiasm, backed up by horse sense and persistence, is the quality that most frequently makes for success. -Dale Carnegie

How can they say my life is not a success? Have I not for more than sixty years got enough to eat and escaped being eaten?
-Logan P. Smith

I couldn't wait for success, so I went ahead without it.
-Jonathan Winters

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody. -Bill Cosby

If you want to achieve things in life, you've just got to do them, and if you're talented and smart, you'll succeed. -Juliana Hatfield

Success is blocked by concentrating on it and planning for it... Success is shy - it won't come out while you're watching.
-Tennessee Williams

Success is often the result of taking a misstep in the right direction. -Al Bernstein

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure. -Bill Cosby

Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.
-George S. Patton

I felt your shape

I thought I felt your shape but I was wrong
Really all I felt was falsely strong
I held on tight and closed my eyes
It was dumb I had no sense of your size

It was dumb to hold so tight
But last night
On the birthday in the kitchen
My grip was loose my eyes were open

I felt your shape and heard you breathing
I felt the rise and fall of your chest
I felt your fall
Your winter snows
Your gusty blow
Your lava flow
I felt it all
Your starry night
Your lack of light
With limp arms I can feel most of you

I hung around your neck independently
And my loss was overwhelmed
By this new depth I don’t think I ever felt

But I don’t know
The nights are cold
And I remember warmth
I could have sworn I wasn’t alone

Stars

I have been noticing how bright the stars are lately- in part due to the fact that I have a sun roof now (and a vehicle). Also because I've been smoking cigarettes and I often stand outside at night in the freezing. Theres a ton of hot shots on flickr, but theyre all bitmaps or gifs and I don't know how to post them.

Anyways- we were in Charlotte for the past 2 days, and it felt good to get back today, clean my room, do laundry, make dinner, sweep up some dog hair and rearrange a bit. It seems everything I have here is organized now, and I played around in the dreamy back yard shed this afternoon- should be room for a few more boxes of kidnapped items from Nashville.

I had wanted to make one of those lists I've seen people do- 25 things to do before I'm 25- but I only have 4 months at this point, so I'll have to keep it easy. Maybe 15 is more feasible. Or 13 good ones. But first I should take a break from blogging for a few days. I don't like putting things up just for the sake of it, especially since this is supposed to be like my online sketchbook and not really worth all the time and energy for who knows who to not see. Never fear nobodys- I'll have plenty of time next week while I'm in Charlotte getting my face drilled.

Looking forward to making lists and crossing things off. Busy day running errands with Dad tomorrow. And I have a few books waiting for me to open them.

Bouwe van der Molen

Saw the tape font at Aesthetic Outburst (via Pink Shirts and Car Wrecks) and stalked his profiles. . and his blog Freaky Fauna. The photo of his work space was taken for a book on small pads, the tape font was setup in a villa window and then later digitized, the design by subtraction was inspired by a quote from Ruedi Baur at the Ecole National des Beaux-Arts, Lyon.

“Subtract signs, subtract gadgets, subtract the pointless, subtract the too-much-to-the-point, subtract systemisation, subtract formulas, subtract power, subtract signatures, subtract beliefs… maybe even subtract subtraction?…”

Nick Drake

I just watched a tribute for Heath Ledger on ovation, apparently he was a big Nick Drake fan. I also found out nick died at 25 of an 'antidepressant overdose' which I had no idea about- for some reason I always pictured him as an older man. You can find a few videos on youtube, also a song called Nick Drake by Mogwai, which didn't completely impress me but I do love Mogwai anyway. There is also a fairly creepy documentary in multiple parts available- composed solely on still photos and interviews, as there is no live footage of him performing, or otherwise. Cello Song is a good example of his advanced finger picking. Northern Sky always stood out as one of my favorites back in the day- I never knew what it was called I just dubbed it 'the most romantic song ever'. (see below)

A toast tonight to the other cold and lonely romantics.

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you’re here
Brighten my northern sky

I’ve been a long time that I’m waiting
Been a long time that I’m blown
I’ve been a long time that I’ve wandered
Through the people I have known
Oh, if you would and you could
Straighten my new mind’s eye

Would you love me for my money
Would you love me for my head
Would you love me through the winter
Would you love me ‘til I’m dead
Oh, if you would and you could
Come blow your horn on high

I never felt magic crazy as this
I never saw moons knew the meaning of the sea
I never held emotion in the palm of my hand
Or felt sweet breezes in the top of a tree
But now you’re here

Brighten my northern sky

This Buds for You

I took a second to ponder the new year, and thought of flower buds. .

Celebrations

Hope everyone had a super New Years Eve! We kept the party going until tonight, when we celebrated my Nanas 90th birthday. Lots of fun and crazy family time has been had- now I have to even it out with some good old fashioned sleep.

Black Star

Well. I saw this picture and figured it summed up how I was feeling. But a bit more glamorous, and I dont have any balloons. You get the idea right? Took a whirlwind trip to VA yesterday to pick up "my" 4runner, and got to stop in Richmond and see some of my old peeps and streets. It was great, but now that I'm back here it just hurts. When I lived in Richmond I never wanted to run away every second like I do now. But then I realized it doesn't matter where I am I still have no purpose. so thats depressing.

More of my family arrived last night, which I thought would help me feel more cheerful. They went out downtown to lunch today at some fusion resturaunt they were raving about, but decided to just let me sit here in my pajamas all day. Phone never rang. Cool guys. Tracked em down at my aunts and ate pizza, forced myself to drink some red wine, and then drove home about 10:30 in the sleet. to put my pajamas back on.
