

In Art Foundation at VCU I was inspired to make sandals out of birch bark. I think I liked the softness of the bark- how it is always peeling off and seems so fragile, yet as a bark it protects a tree, so its tough in its own way too. So I coated a leather bottom with the bark and attached some simple twine to make the top. You could say it was my rebellion against the manolo- obsessed, the girls that wear things that just hurt me to look at..
