Happy Halloween!!

I've already taken a few days off. . but it seems I'll need a few more. Getting images in and organized for the hospital and spending time just being myself + cooking and relaxing with Dad! This computer has been a bit schmatz lately so hopefully it can take a break too and we will have more wonderful posts here for you soon.

Love.

Chelsea Lately

It's late- time for my favoritest nighttime show. Chelsea Handler loves midgets and drinking and making fun of people in a generally hilarious and some might say inappropriate manner. I've heard she is working on her third book?! Slow your roll there sister, I haven't read the first one. Dayum.

Your Light Is Spent

Do not offer me a contract
Got no use for a house by the sea
All I ask for is a warm body
To keep this winter from killing me

Everytime you close your eyes and lie still
You look just like a dead man
Dead man, dead man, I'll sing your story
Dead man come to live again

Scan the skies for signs of heaven
Heaven, what use is heaven for you?
Spend your time instead
Spend your time with us, us

watch/ listen to videos of this beautiful song

Tori Golub Interiors

Classic design from Manhattan based Tori Golub - who uses a lot of neutral tones to create calm and soothing interiors. I love, love, love banquette seating for dining areas - they look so cozy and would be perfect for long dinner parties or card games with friends. I'm also totally into gray right now, and I think the first photo is probably the best shade around- it's a warm gray, without being too cold or too beige. + a velvet seat, fuzzy rug and some antlers? Bellissima!

Jen Renninger

I am so blessed to have began correspondence with Jen Renninger, a talented artist and generous heart who is also coincidentally looking into work with the arts and healthcare. Her designs are so inpiring, I can't wait to see them up at the hospital. You can order some for yourself from her etsy shop, and make sure to check out her blog while you're at it.

More Thanks

to Michelle Yap for donating some beautiful photography to UAMS.

Not Scarfs

These are "bathtub scrubbies" I just saw on etsy.
Not sure why they're not scarfs. .

Lightning

So I haven't really been able to remember much of my dreams lately. Probably because I've been physically and emotionally exausted and I stay up way too late. But last night/this morning I dreamed I was in the back yard of a house, underneath a little porch and a big storm was whipping all around us. A huge streak of lightning went up and down the sky to my right. Across the yard was a grove of tall pines, and I was screaming for Shadow because he was still out there. In the flash of lightning I saw him standing there looking scared, but after it hit he ran back to me.

In 2 years I've only ever been away from him for a week, and its been like 3 now. Ugh.

I just went to dreammoods.com and here's what it said:

To see lightning in your dream, signifies sudden awareness, insight, spiritual revelation, truth and purification. Alternatively, lightning may imply a shocking turn of events. It suggests the many forces governing your life may be beyond your control and even destructive.

I think I'll have to go with the latter on that one. Recently found out that my little brother has been in the hospital all week. When it rains it pours, as they say.

To see a storm in your dream, signifies overwhelming struggle, shock, devastating loss and catastrophe in your personal affairs. The storm also represents unexpressed fears or emotions, such as anger, rage, turmoil, etc. On a more positive note, the storm signifies your rising spirituality. It could signal rapid changes ahead for you. To dream that you take cover in a storm, foretells that whatever disturbance or problems is occurring in your life will quickly blow over. Consider also the phrase "weather the storm", which suggests your ability and strength to withstand whatever comes.

To see a dog in your dream, symbolizes intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. The dream suggests that your strong values and good intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and bring you success. To see a German Shepherd in your dream, highlights your protective instincts and attentiveness to a situation. This is no time for your to be nervous and/or lose control.

Well. I guess that says it.

Pew can do it!

Look at this bench that got a makeover, Mary! Oh, what we could do with that pew. . Found over at Bloesem

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down today.
Nothing gold can stay

Robert Frost

Starcrossed

Just didn't want you guys to think I had forgotten my first love!

bright sided

I saw this video on the Daily Show recently. Maybe I should make a few posters that say Cancer Sucks or something like that. I don't want to be so 'positive' that people want to punch me. .

hijirik

Tomorrow those bottom 2 bad boys will be on their way to our little floor at the hospital. I am so excited! Thank you hijirik so much for your generous donation.

Papa Bear

Just thought I would put up a few pictures of my dear Dad on his Harley Davidson. Look at that shiny chrome! The first photo was taken in Frederick, Maryland and the second I took out the car window while we were crossing the Bay Bridge. I know he can't wait for his recovery, so he can ride again! He was very tired today, and has been very quiet, but I know its just all the chemicals they've been putting in him, and he should be back to normal by Thanksgiving. I have had such wonderful responses from artists today about my project at UAMS, it's been getting me quite emotional. Thank you everyone for your support!

depuis

Another thank you goes out to Brooklyn photographer Mina, who also just signed up to contribute beauties for UAMS. I love how the scene of Nikolaos, Greece in the center almost looks like a tiny set. Her work has a handprinted, aged quality that I love, but the colors are still bright and fresh. I look forward to seeing them pop off the wall in that beige ward!

Sycamore Street Press

Thanks a Ba-zillion to Kirk and Eva at Sycamore Street Press, for agreeing to donate some fabulous hand letterpressed cards for my project at the hospital. You can see in the details above the quality and texture digital printing just can't replace. Not only are they talented, SSP has been utilizing sustainable practices in their studio like soy based inks on either 'tree free' cotton paper or 100% recycled. Plus their vintage hand letterpress doesn't use any electricity. High Five from greenbean!

Inspiration Boards

So tonight I started emailing artists from etsy in hopes they will donate photography for the blank cork boards on 7C- the chemo floor at UAMS. I got one positive reply already, so I'm stoked! My goal is to assemble a different one for each of the 11 rooms- to cheer up the patients and give them something to look at while they are sitting in there getting chemo, or waiting on test results, which is the other 70% of what goes on. It will also give me something productive and positive to work on while I am here in Little Rock. Wish me luck! Ill let you know how they turn out.
