Felt on display

found a slide show on artists using felt over at the ny times -
Felt’s history began 8,000 years ago, before the earliest forms of weaving. Created from animal wool, soap and water and mashed into pulp, felt is then dried and made into everything from caps to rugs and capes to yurts.

Bouwe van der Molen

Saw the tape font at Aesthetic Outburst (via Pink Shirts and Car Wrecks) and stalked his profiles. . and his blog Freaky Fauna. The photo of his work space was taken for a book on small pads, the tape font was setup in a villa window and then later digitized, the design by subtraction was inspired by a quote from Ruedi Baur at the Ecole National des Beaux-Arts, Lyon.
“Subtract signs, subtract gadgets, subtract the pointless, subtract the too-much-to-the-point, subtract systemisation, subtract formulas, subtract power, subtract signatures, subtract beliefs… maybe even subtract subtraction?…”

Big Crush

So it's pretty obvious I have a huge crush on Charles Lang Freer- founder of the first Smithsonian Art Gallery. Another great artist represented in his collection is Dwight William Tryon. His paintings hung in the gallery capture the colorful stillness of the landscape perfectly, but also the excitement and beauty of it.
