hello blue monday. .

I didn't get as much accomplished today as I would've liked. (What a surprise.) I did listen to lots of jazz this morning and get the apartment cleaned up a bit though. Since the weather is absolutely perfect I'm going to take Shadow out now- but I couldn't leave without at least one post for the day.

At the National Gallery of Australia website there is an amazing article on Helen Frankenthaler and a virtual walk through of her new exhibition of woodcuts. Which is pretty cool since she, like most other color field painters, previously relied on raw canvas to absorb and hold the color. I also like how she scratched into the wood, and the background of grain is much more stimulating than plain white.

The site was pretty annoying to be honest- I had to scroll in and reload the page several times on a "virtual gallery" wall to get to just one image- but the concept was helpful especially sense it in essence would allow you to view each and every piece included in the show. If you were patient. Overall I thought 'Madame Butterfly' to be entirely superior to the others. So here it is-your moment of zen :)

Look at the birdie

I just saw an ad for a new Kurt Vonnegut collection of short stories- only available in e book format! I am a big fan of pages, but you can read the same thing for $1.99 instead of $14 if you leave them out. I am also (obviously) a big fan of Mr.V- who mingles social/political commentary, humor, and creativity seamlessly. and now pagelessly. The e book Look at the Birdie was published August, 25.

I got the image of Slaughterhouse 5 covers from here. And I'll throw in a really old cover of player piano, along with the current cover for Sirens of Titan available on Amazon. I really like the purple and yellow combination. (Apparently the eyes are a recurring theme.)

If you would attain to what you are not yet, you must always be displeased by what you are. For where you are pleased with yourself there you have remained. Keep adding, keep walking, keep advancing. Saint Augustine

The Burrow- Franz Kafka

Also I am not permanently doomed to this free life, for I know that my term is measured, that I do not have to hunt here forever, and that, whenever I am weary of this life and wish to leave it, Someone, whose invitation I shall not be able to withstand, will, so to speak, summon me to him. And so I can pass my time here quite without care and with complete enjoyment, or rather I could, but I cannot.

Tucker girl

I must've seen a link to this site on someones blog- but I have to share a few of the beautiful patterns and shapes from the fall 2009 collection. I saw the wrap jacket and just fell in love.

"Tucker is not specific to an age or style or state of mind, Tucker is womanly, brave and nomadic. Tucker is who you want to be." Awesome.

Explosions in the Sky

I love this band. Thought I'd post some tunes since I was listening to them- then I went to their site and saw they are playing TONIGHT in Maryland. Have a great show guys!! Argh, why am I not there?

I found this video Welcome, Ghosts that was filmed on my birthday 2 years ago. I like the intensity of the live show, even though the video isn't much to look at.

First Post. .

Beautiful bathroom from my newest, favoritest blog- cafe cortolina.

Theres plenty of room in there for my 3 pets to hang out- while I relax in the sunny tub. Wish I could be there this very moment!

I had a late night, and now the day is overcast and humid. This bright and fresh room could certainly revive me! Its from a country house in Wiltshire, England. Check out many, many more beautiful images and articles at her blog.
